Visit Sydney Opera House to Witness the Architectural Wonders

Your visit to Australia can never be complete before you visit Sydney Opera House—the iconic building situated on the Bennelong Point beside the Sydney Harbour. The building, which is now in the UNESCO World Heritage List and the National Heritage List, is the most conspicuous structure in Australia. Since its establishment in 1973, the building has become the centerpiece of the busy harbor, attracting millions of tourists from all over the world every year.

If you are planning to visit the top tourist attraction sites in Australia, make sure Sydney Opera House is on top of the list. This structure offers much more than just an eye-catching façade. Over and above its complex architectural designs, the building hosts numerous popular restaurants and bars where visitors unwind as they enjoy their favorite meals and marvel at the intricate construction of the building.

With so many things to do while at Sydney Opera House, you are guaranteed to never have a dull moment. But before you pack up your travel bags and leave for Sydney Opera House, it is important to understand a bit of its history and the kind of activities you can engage in during your travel.

History of Sydney Opera House

The groundwork for this building started in 1959, but it wasn’t until 1962 that its architectural designs were completed. The unique structure is the brainchild of Jorn Utzon—a famous Danish architect. Its distinctive radical sail design pushed the parameters of construction engineering and understanding of the time to new levels. However, there were several major glitches during the construction process. For instance, the Australian government called for modifications to the original plan in order to create space for four halls contrary to the initial plan to have only two halls.

These changes resulted in serious space issues, including an opera stage that is too small for a grand opera. This led to major disagreements between the architect and the Australian authorities, forcing him to leave the country even before the project was completed. The entire structure, which cost $160 million to build, took 14 years to complete and was formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 20th October 1973. It was fully financed by the public through lottery tickets.

Things to Do at Sydney Opera House

1.    Attend a Festival

Despite its lack of space for a grand opera, this building hosts over 2,000 shows and festivals a year. Sadly, only 15 percent of these shows are opera. However, there are all kinds of shows, music festivals and art exhibitions that you can enjoy including standup comedy, orchestras, ballet, dances, international concerts, theater shows, indie rock festivals among others.

2.    Backstage Tour

When you walk into the Sydney Opera House for the first time, you suddenly realize how massive and dazzling the space really is. The building houses seven performance stages, six of them are indoors and one outdoors. The building’s management offers a 2.5-hour tour of the backstage every day at 7 o’clock in the morning. This is a rare opportunity for you to explore the building before your favorite show begins. With the help of a tour guide, you will visit different stages, rehearsal rooms, dressing areas, and orchestra pits. You will also get insights into the various operations that are critical to making every performance successful.

3.    Watching the Sunset

As the sun sets, the Sydney Opera House becomes a piece of art as the colorful lights irradiate its scalloped-wings. The view of the sparkling structure from the Harbour is just spectacular. This visual experience blends perfectly with the music from outdoor concerts to offer a truly memorable experience.

4.    Cruise Around the Harbour

You should also take a scenic cruise around the Sydney Harbour for some unprecedented views of the Opera House, Royal Botanic Gardens, and other unique sights around the Harbour. This cruise also gives you an opportunity to enjoy welcoming Sydney weather on an open Harbour cruise ship. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

3 Most Dangerous Travel Destinations for Women

As a female traveler, you need to choose your travel destinations carefully because some places are very unsafe for women. This is very unfair for women because everyone should be able to move freely regardless of their gender, but it’s the reality. Some of these violent acts against women are based on traditions and therefore it will take more than legislations to get rid of them.
So, as a woman, you need to be aware of some of these traditions and dangers before you embark on your journey. Here are three of the most dangerous travel destinations for women in the world.

Brazil

Despite of its amazing travel destinations and impressive cultures that visitors can partake in, Brazil is still one of the most dangerous place for women to travel to. For a long time, this Latin American country has been leading in murder cases. It is also one of the leading countries in the world in terms of violence and crime, especially in the slums.
Statistics show that a woman is sexually attacked every 15 seconds while another one is murdered every 2 hours in Brazil. In addition to this violence against women, the country also records a very high number of minor crimes such as muggings, robberies, scams, pickpocketing and stabbings. This is not to say that Brazil doesn’t have beautiful and peaceful destinations that women can visit without feeling insecure. Nevertheless, it’s advisable for women not to travel to any of these places alone.

Egypt

Despite being so rich in culture and history, Egypt continues to rank highly in terms of violence against women. This is very regressive considering that the North African country largely depends on tourism for revenue generation. Since the 2011 political uprising, crime in the country has continued to rise, especially sexual violence and harassment.
This country has also been flagged severally by the U.S Department of State as a high-risk area, considering that it hosts a number of terrorist groups, such as ISIS, that continue to commit deadly attacks almost on a daily basis. Also, there have been several high-profile cases of foreign female tourists being sexually assaulted and attacked in the streets. So, if you are planning to visit the marvelous Egyptian pyramids or any other iconic site in the country, make sure you are not alone.

India

For a country that is so culturally diverse and full of wonderful attraction sites, you might think that the government is on top of things when it comes to protecting tourists, especially women, against attacks and discrimination. According to Human Rights Watch, the Indian government is not doing enough to investigate and prosecute sexual abuse cases in the country.
This Asian country also continues to experience frequent deadly attacks from terror groups such as Al Badr, Al Umar among others. Furthermore, there have been many high-profile cases of women being gang raped in broad daylight. So, if you are considering a trip to the magnificent Taj Mahal, which is one of the greatest tourist attraction sites in the world, make sure you are in a group of trustworthy people.
These are just some of the places where women travelers are most likely going to be attacked or abused. There are many other destinations that are equally dangerous, not just for women but male tourists too. It is also important to note that this blog doesn’t in any way imply that the countries listed above approve of this violence.

4 Things to Avoid When Traveling to Dangerous Countries

It is not a secret that there are countries where democracy still remains elusive. In such nations, killings, political assassinations, forceful disappearances and other forms of human rights violations are the order of the day. Unfortunately, most of these countries have some of the most marvelous travel destinations.
So, you might find yourself travelling to such a country on holiday or for business purposes someday. It is therefore important to know how you are supposed to handle yourself when you are in such a hostile environment. Here are some of the 4 things you should avoid when you are travelling to a dangerous country.

Offensive Conduct

When you travel to a place where people practice cultures that are totally different from your way of life, you need to avoid doing things or engaging in activities that might offend the locals. For instance, if you travel to a country where women are supposed to cover themselves completely when in public, you shouldn’t wear skimpy clothes because they might be considered offensive.

Unsafe Places

Before you embark on a journey to a dangerous region, do thorough research to know which areas are most unsafe for foreigners or visitors. For instance, you should try your best to avoid areas that are held by militia or have unstable governance structures because visitors are the easiest targets by criminals. It is also important to be aware of the safest routes in and out of the country, as well as the people who are friendly to visitors.

Taking Sides

In places where two or more groups are at loggerheads, it is important for you as a visitor to remain neutral. Do not get sucked up into the politics of the region, especially if it doesn’t affect you directly because you are most likely going to be deemed an enemy of the opposing sides. This is not to say that you shouldn’t call out an injustice when you see one, but try to avoid unnecessary conflicts.

Don’t Show Off

Since most of the troubled countries do not have working systems, the citizens there are engrossed in abject poverty. Consequently, crime rates in such areas are very high. So, if you flaunt your expensive necklaces, watches, cameras and clothes when you are walking around, you obviously become an easy target for muggers and robbers.
Finally, make sure that you fully understand the situation in the country you are planning to travel to before you embark on the journey so that you can have a clear picture of what you are getting yourself into. Also, ensure that you have an escape plan in case things become too hot for you.

5 Unexpected Travel Expenses You Should Avoid

It is very easy to spend money on things you hadn’t budgeted for when you are on holiday. For instance, you might be compelled to buy a valuable souvenir or enjoy too many local delicacies. Whatever you do, it is an extra expense you choose to incur. If you are not careful about how you spend money while on holiday, you will end up hurting your wallet and ruin your vacation.
The best way to ensure that you do not go over your budget while on vacation is to understand the various unforeseen expenses and how to avoid them. Here are 5 of the most common unexpected travel expenses that you should avoid.

Baggage Fee

If you are flying multiple carriers during your vacation, you are likely going to experience unexpected variation in your baggage fees because different airlines have different cargo weight and size measurements. These variations might end up dilating your budget.
The best way to avoid these additional charges is to carry only the most important luggage. Do not stuff your suitcases to the brim. Also, check the weight and size prerequisites for each airline you plan to fly before you load your suitcases. You should even weigh your luggage before you head to the airport just to make sure it is not overweight.

Hotel Booking Fee

When you are booking a hotel for your accommodation, it is wise to check the available packages carefully because some unscrupulous hotels offer attractive packages with hidden costs that will only become apparent when you arrive at the hotel. For instance, many hotels do not include things like service fees and cleaning charges in their packages but they will charge you for the services.
What is more, some cities require hotels to charge tourist taxes. In most places, you will be required to pay this tax the moment you get to your hotel. So, make sure to check if the hotel you are booking has tourist taxes. Another way to avoid these surprises is to try booking the room online to see the total amount you are required to pay. Also, read online reviews and feedback from other travelers to know if the hotel is reliable.

Tipping

Some hotels will add tips to your bill automatically. This can be frustrating if the tips are more than you had budgeted for. To avoid such surprises, ask in advance if the hotel applies tips automatically. Alternatively, you can add a certain percentage of your tips to your budget for all the meals you plan to have.

Currency Exchange

Converting your money to local currencies can be very expensive. Furthermore, currency exchange shops do charge a fee for every coin you convert. This can be very shocking and frustrating if you are not well prepared. To avoid such setbacks, use an online converter beforehand to check how much it will cost you to convert your currency when you get to your destination.

Emergencies

Some emergencies can ruin your vacation if you are not prepared. For instance, you might get injured or become infected and therefore require medical attention. Since you can’t predict how serious an emergency might be, it is advisable to have a travel insurance cover. Alternatively, you should carry your credit card to help you take care of the emergencies.
These are just some of the strategies you can use to identify and minimize unexpected travel expenses where possible. Keep in mind the fact that vacations come with their share of unseen costs. Even though you should plan ahead, always give yourself some cushion just in case of unanticipated expenses.

Importance of a Responsive Website Design

Before we delve deeper into the benefits of having a responsive website design, perhaps we should start by understanding what a responsive web design is. Firstly, it’s important to note that the days when we only had to use a computer to access websites are long gone. People can now browse the internet with all manner of mobile devices including cellphones, tablets, E-readers and gaming consoles.

Ensuring your site or blog is compatible with different mobile devices is therefore an important part of the development process. The easiest and most effective way to achieve this is to create a responsive website. It is called responsive because it can adjust itself to a wide range of screen sizes.

Benefits of a Responsive Website Design
  • More Traffic
Studies have shown that majority of internet surfers use mobile devices to access the internet. You can therefore tap into this traffic by choosing a responsive website design. With this web design, you allow your target audience to access every webpage on your site, which increases your traffic.
  • Better Ranking
More traffic to your website automatically means better ranking. In fact it shouldn’t surprise you to learn that Google favors responsive web designs. When you are using a responsive website design, your webpages will automatically adjust in a manner that helps webmasters to keep content on the original URL. In other words, it reduces duplicity of your webpages.
  • Bounce Rate Reduction
In most cases when you do not have a responsive website design, your bounce rate tends to be high as visitors are automatically turned away by the clumsy design of your website. Nobody enjoys the hassle of having to scroll horizontally on their mobile device. A responsive website design helps you to deal with this problem. It offers better user experience, which is good for SEO.

Always base your advert on the specific audience you are targeting. Use keywords that you know your target audience are likely to search for.
Create Objectives for Your PPC Campaign

Regardless of the size of your PPC campaign, it has to be aimed at specific goals. What do you want to achieve with the campaign? Develop a Relevant and Simple PPC Structure

It’s needless to say that your pay per click ads should be formulated using relevant keywords and phrases. The trick here is to create several adverts, each with its specific target keywords. Then remember to keep it simple. The most successful pay-per-click campaign structures are intuitive and practicable. What’s more, they are easy to monitor.

Common SEO Mistakes Affecting Your Ranking

It’s frustrating when you spend massive resources on SEO only to find your website on page ten of Google search results. Truly, this is demoralizing. But have you taken time to look at the possible SEO mistakes you could be making? Very few internet marketing experts will talk about the common mistakes that could be preventing your website from ranking higher.
Here are five of the commonest SEO mistakes that will definitely affect your ranking.

Poor Site Maintenance

A common mistake that website owners make is to assume that a website is meant to run flawlessly through eternity. Without proper maintenance, your website will certainly lag behind- especially in the current ever-changing environment. Update your website regularly to ensure it’s at par with the upcoming ones.

Lack of Consistency

Don’t expect better search engine results if you are not consistent in your SEO campaign. If you are relying on content for search engine optimization, you have to keep publishing new content every now and then. Also, check what your competitors are doing to improve their ranking, and make sure to do it even better.

Wrong Keywords

This is a common SEO mistake that even celebrated online marketing experts make. It’s only natural for someone to choose keywords that appear to describe their website. The unfortunate thing is that people may not be searching for these keywords. Use the available keyword suggestion tools for the right keywords.

Lack of Proper Title Tags

A lot of bloggers and website owners tend to forget title tags when publishing content. This negatively affects the way a search engine crawls through your pages. Other people have title tags but forget to include the targeted keyword. That also affects your ranking.

Spamming Your Site with Excess Back Links

Some people assume that having more backlinks will help improve their search engine ranking. This is a common delusion, but a wrong one. When back linking your site, choose just a few of the most reputable and useful links.

Internet marketing is evolving- meaning that what is working for you today could not be useful tomorrow. You therefore need to keep abreast with the latest advances and avoid making the above and other common SEO mistakes.
